By the mercy of Guru Maharaj this year once again a group of about 180 devotees from around 30 countries joined the Annual Safari which would be visiting and preaching in many  places of vaisnava importance in India.

We started our pilgrimage on 23rd March 2011 from Sridham Mayapur at noon and boarded a train to Gaya. The journey from Mayapur to Burdwan station was very austere. Because of Guru Maharaj's mercy,  the most humble  devotees of  ISKCON Habibpur temple  brought prasadam to serve the Safari devotees. When Marici Prabhu offered some donation for the  prasadam they said all they wanted was the blessings of the Safari devotees.

All were so happy to be going on Safari together meeting old friends and making new aquaintances.

After spending the night on the train we arrived at the holy  town of Gaya at 5:00 am.

We were most honored to have the association of H.H. Bhakti Dhira Damodara Swami Maharaj and H.G. Jagjivan Prabhu. H.H. Bhakti Dhira Damodara Swami Maharaj and H.G. Jagjivan Prabhu gave a morning class on the importance of Gaya as a place of pilgrimage. While we were soaking up the nectar of Gaya we were utterly surprised and ecstatic on hearing Guru Maharaj on the phone. The call was connected live by Marici Prabhu  for  all of  to hear Him.

After breakfast we went to visit the famous Vishnu Pada Temple in Gaya. This is the sacred place where the footprints of Lord Vishnu is embedded in a stone slab. The deities of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi Devi are worshipped in the temple. it is in this holy city of Gaya that  Lord Caitanya was initiated by Ishwara Puri and when He saw the footprints of Vishnu  he got so ecstatic that he started chanting and dancing and thus he started the sankirtan movement.

Vishnu Gaya is also very important for pinda dana to Lord Vishnu in memory of all the ancestors who have passed away. Here we took part in an elaborate yagna ceremony where we did pinda dana to the ancestors of  each one of our family and friends. The Queen of Malaysia had also requested Marici Prabhu that we do a pinda for her parents.  Guru Maharaj called us and requested that we all do pinda dana for His parents as well as for Devaki Mayi mataji. We also went down and paid obeisances  to holy Falgu river which Is usually a bed of sand at this time of the year. Here a very emotional ceremony was performed and the ashes of Devaki mataji was offered  here at Falgu river by Ekanath prabhu. Ecstatic kirtan circumbulated the ceremony.

After lunch we went to visit the famous Mahabodhi Mahavihara . This Is  the buddhist monastery where the young prince Siddharta  who wanted to find out the real meaning  existance in this world, sat down in meditation under a great peepul tree [bodhi tree /banyan tree] , and attained Enlightenment and hence came to be known as Gautama Buddha - the Enlightened One. The monastery has a beautiful deity of Lord Buddha in golden hues in a well decorated temple.  It has also beautiful landscaped gardens around the main temple where followers can sit and spend hours of meditation in peace.

Then we came back to our guest house and after some rest and dinner we boarded the buses and went off to the station to board a train at 1:00 am to our next destination - the battlefield of  Kurukshetra.

We are now on our 26 hour ecstatic train journey. On the train we did japa walk, ecstatic kirtan, continous sankirtan and Bhagavad-gita class. The devotees of  ISKCON lucknow provided us with very special prasadam. One of our god-sisters, Divya mataji from Italy had to end her Safari abruptly at Lucknow due to the demise of her mother.

Marici Prabhu received a message from Guru Maharaj saying He really missed the safari and He had a special surprise for us tomorrow.

Yours in His Service of His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj

Today is the last day of the Parikrama. All the four Parikrama parties were  scheduled to meet each other at the junction near Yoga Pitha around 10:00 am.The road from ISKCON Mayapur to Srivas Angan was filled with devotees and rickshaws. Many non Parikrama devotees started going towards Yoga Pitha by walk, cycle and rickshaws to witness the climax of the Parikrama.  When we passed by this junction (which is like 200 metres before Srivas Angan) ,  we noticed that many devotees were already standing on the  roof of houses, trees and boundary walls around the junction waiting to take video and photo of the confluence of all the parties. When Guru Maharaja joined the Hindi Group in Srivas Angan at 9 am, His Holiness Bhakti Purusottama Swami was addressing the devotees. He was saying that the confluence of these four Parikrama parties are like the confluence of four holy rivers (Caturveni Sangam). Ten minutes later,  Guru Maharaja started addressing the devotees and while He was describing the significance of Srivas Angan for the Hindi Party, we were told that all the other three parties are around the corner.

After a short address, Guru Maharaj took darshan of the presiding deities at Srivas Angan and then we made our way to the main gate to get into His car to witness the confluence. When we reached the main gate we found Guru Maharaja's car was not there. Somehow Sudama Prabhu, who is Guru Maharaja's driver was not able to be traced. We then decided to join the hindi stream and wheeled Guru Maharaja down all the way from Srivas Angan to the junction near Yoga Pitha. We had about 20 devotees  make a ring around Guru Maharaja by holding our hands and moved along with him by having him in the middle of the ring. As we were cruising along the hindi stream we noticed the confluence was already taking place about 100 metres infront of us. The wave of devotees became much stronger as we were approaching the confluence and our 20 men ring started to go out of shape, not able to withhold the strong current hitting us from all directions. Finally the 20 men ring was broken and from 20 men we became 4 men ring!

The blissful Parikrama devotees who were dancing so joyfully were received with sandal wood paste applied on their forehead and marigold garlands.Upon meeting  they hugged each other and with their hands joined together, they danced by calling out 'Jaya Sacinandana! Jaya Sacinandana!' .It was completely ecstatic. Hundreds and hundreds of flags were seen dancing in the air according to the devotees' movements. The devotees were already dancing in ecstasy of meeting each other and they became even more ecstatic after seeing Guru Maharaja in the middle of them with both His hands on the air and moving gracefully to the left and right. Nobody expected Him to be there in middle of the confluence!!  Though it was ecstatic, we were worried about Guru Maharaja. We quickly wheeled Him into Yoga Pitha for darshan while waiting for the devotees who confluenced at the junction to meet again at the nearby field for maha kirtan and breakfast prasadam. While Guru Maharaja was having his darshan at Yoga Pitha His Holiness Gopal Krishna Swami Maharaj came towards Guru Maharaja and hugged him by chanting 'Jai Sacinandana! Hari Bol!!!!!!!'  After darshan we went to the field to meet all the devotees and there we spotted Guru Maharaja's car.

Guru Maharaja requested Him to be seated in the car and gave darshan to all the devotees. As soon as the devotees noticed that mercy is flowing out from the car in the form of prasadam,  devoteesstarted running  towards our car. Some devotees got the crowd to form a queue to receive the sweet prasadam. Gurumaharaj sat in the car for almost 2 hours and was distributing maha prasadam for 979 devotees! .Hmmm, you all must be wondering how come we know how many devotees received the prasadam, right? Yes!  we had one devotee just to do the counting! Actually Guru Maharaja told him to keep track of  the count of Hare Krishna maha-mantras He is chanting during the prasadam distribution. For each person, He was chanting one mantra.

At 12:30 noon we left the field and joined His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Swami Maharaj Vyasa Puja festival at Panca Tattva extension hall. After lunch and one hour rest, we took Guru Maharaja to His darshan room to do some exercise. Around 6:30 pm His Holiness Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj made a sudden appearance in front of Guru Maharaja. Both Maharajas hugged and paid respect to each other. H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj told Guru Maharaja that it has been almost two years since He last met Guru Maharaj. Guru Maharaja welcomed him to Sri Dham Mayapur and in return H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj  expressed his happiness to be here in Mayapur. This evening Guru Maharaja was invited to His Holiness Bhakti Vallabha Tirtha Maharaj 50th Sanyas Anniversary in his Math. It was a very big program which was broadcasted live on national TV channels. Guru Maharaja  invited H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj to accompany Him for the program if possible. H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj  asked Guru Maharaja what time he would return. Guru Maharaja said He is planning to stay there for maximum one hour and would be back by 9 pm. H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj replied, "Yes sounds good, because I generally sleep by 9 pm."

There were about 100  sanyasis from different Gaudiya Maths invited for this function. Guru Maharaja  and H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj were made to sit on the main stage next to H.H. Bhakti Vallabha Tirtha Swami Maharaj. Guru Maharaja was the only sannyasi who was requested to speak right after H.H. Bhakti Vallabha Tirtha Swami Maharaj.

H.H.Bhakti Vallabha Tirtha Swami Maharaj is about 87 years and he took sanyas at the age of 37. It was about 9:45 pm when we left the program. While we were driving back to ISKCON Mayapur which is just 5 mins drive away, H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj told Guru Maharaja , "In 9 years,  you will be celebrating your 50th sanyas anniversay too. We should do it grandly".(Guru Maharaja  took sannyas  in 1970 at the age of  21.)

After reaching ISKCON Campus Guru Maharaja asked forgiveness from H.H. Bhakti Vikas Swami Maharaj for the late program.

I am glad to see all of you for the Bhakti Vriksha seminar. Bhakti Vriksha and Congregational Development, we started in 1996 at the Prabhupada Centennial – maybe a year or two ahead of that. At first we faced a lot of cultural difficulties – the culture in ISKCON did not recognize congregational devotees. But we saw that most of the devotees were technically in the congregation and Prabhupad had told me in 1970 that in the future most of the devotees who live in their house, and sometimes they would come to the temple for festivals or Sunday feast. I don’t know why he told me that but now I see that the GBC and mainly the Minister for Congregational Development, now Kaunteya das is the Co-Minister. Now the Nama-Hatta is assisting for 30 years and Bhakti Vriksha which is a special kind of Nama-Hatta for the cities, has been existing for 15 years. We also have small groups of other styles like counselor groups. In the future we see that most of the devotees will continue to live in their homes and Bhakti Vriksha gives a good chance to do service. It brings Krishna consciousness to the devotees and makes it easy for them to participate. Also the more responsible devotees they can take some responsibility as a servant leader or an intern of the Bhakti Vriksha group and this includes men, women, everybody. So it is a very great opportunity to empower the devotees. We are very happy to see that there are thousands of Bhakti Vrikshas and thousands of Nama-Hattas. In fact, there is more Bhakti Vrikshas than any other kind of groups. So this is a very big advancement. Well, some leaders told, you do it and if it is successful, we will also do, but now everybody is doing it – or at least most of the devotees! So in this way we are also very happy to see how the temples are extending their activities to the Bhakti Vrikshas. In some places where there are no temples or no possibility to build temples, Bhakti Vrikshas exist. So you can say in this way it is a very adaptable system and the idea is people should regularly associate with devotees and they should also try to care for devotees. So the frontline of care is done by the Bhakti Vrikshas, Nama-Hattas. In this way devotees get a better a quality of life because they are able to get more attention, more training and they can associate with likeminded people. So this is a very great opportunity They are also able to share their own realizations. There is no other program which allows you to share your realizations with the whole group. So the groups are like little families.

In Hyderabad the person who was there was saying how when he was the president his temple uses the Bhakti Vrikshas to take different responsibilities for all festivals. He told that he cannot see how he could run the temple without them! So as a result the different temples in India decided to take it up. So our Bhakti Vriksha system exists in Delhi and Bombay and Pune. In Pune they have have counselor groups for senior devotees and Bhakti Vriksha for the students. Somehow they realized that all the different  systems – the idea is we would like to see every devotee engage – we see the house devotees or the congregational devotees, they are also DEVOTEES! And before the culture was they had to live in the temple to be considered a devotee. But in the time of Lord Caitanya there were no temples – there were just houses. Lord Caitanya and all His Associates – Srivas Thakur, Advaita – they were all pure devotees, they were all transcendental devotees. They were also grihasthas and they also did various programs in their house and had classes. Advaita Gosai’s classes were famous. So like this we see that our culture should be adjusted and it should include engaging everyone who chants Hare Krishna. So we have the Shiksha program where the different steps of devotional service from the Shraddhavaan to the Satsanga – rather the Krishna Saadaka and Prabhupad Aashraya and Guru Aashraya. So this has been an useful tool to train devotees, to take care of devotees. So like this we are simultaneously trying to take care of devotees while they are training and also explaining in the outreach. So we are very grateful that Premapadmini and Vijay Venugopal are going all over the world and sharing their experiences. We are very much grateful that Angira Muni has established a Bhakti Vriksha in Moscow and also the surrounding areas and now they are also using Nama-Hattas and Bhakti Vrikshas allover Russia and CIS. And also Kalasudha she gave her presentation in Houston and it is being expanded because at first there was some resistance but now they appreciate. So we are very grateful that we have leaders like Caitanya Chandra Charan prabhu who are also utilizing this system in his preaching. Also in Muslim countries this is useful because it is basically invisible! They have some difficulties in some countries because of officially they don’t like to recognize ISKCON. But they can do the Bhakti Vrikshas in the houses and in this way they can quietly expand.

Prabhupad was saying how – actually culturally - theologically there is a lot in similar between the Muslim theology and the Hare Krishna. If we listen or read the arrival address of 1965 in Kolkatta – Prabhupad had visited Iran and so he said that he had some discussion with the Muslim priests or Mullahs or Imaams. He said that  Allah Ho Abkar means Param Brahman. So like this he said many amazing things. So actually Muslims, Christians they can all take up but some countries like their government doesn’t allow. So the Bhakti Vriksha is a very useful tool to spread Krishna consciousness. Any way we have now discussed this topic inside out. I would just like to hope that your visit to Mayapur is useful to give you all spiritual charge to spread the Bhakti Vriksha and spread Krishna consciousness. Thank you for participating!

Hari bol!

Devotee: There is this nice movie about the Moscow Bhakti Vriksha Festival! So we would like to give to everyone today.

17. 03. 2011 -- SRI DHAM MAYAPUR

So, today is Sri Advaita’s day. Advaita Acarya, he was a very great soul and He was the avatar of Mahavishnu and Sadashiva. He was born in Bangladesh in a place called Mahia… that is in the north  and now it is called Sylhet 3 miles from the Indian border. It is on a sacred river.  After some time beside the house in Shantipur he also had a house in Navadweep. He saw that people were very much materialistic and he wanted to give them love of Krishna. But he could not get to change their hearts. He could give liberation but in order to give them love of Krishna that was not easy – only Krishna can do that. (Is there Russian translation there? Who is the translator, raise your hand. Okay. So anyone who needs Russian translation go there.) Any way, he started to worship the Shalagrama-shila with Ganges water and Tulasi manjaris and he was also fasting and loudly chanted the Holy Names and with his loud chanting, fasting and worshipping of Shalagrama-shila he said if my name is Advaita which means  non different  then I will bring the Supreme Lord down. On the adivas day of the Lord during the fire sacrifices it is customary to remember how Advaita Gosia was doing tapasya and loudly chanting the Holy Names and fasted and worshipped the Shalagrama-shila for the advent of Lord Caitanya. Gauranga! Gauranga! Gauranga! While he was doing this, also in Kuliya? Was  Haridas Thakur who was also chanting for the coming of the Lord. So in this way Advaita Acarya got confirmation that the Lord is coming, Krishna is coming in His most merciful incarnation, His most merciful form of Gauranga! Gauranga! Gauranga! So that was one side. Meanwhile he had six children of which three were devotees and three were more like caste brahmanas following the smarta system.  There is no guarantee to get a devotee as a child. So we try and we pray and if we are successful we can get a Krishna conscious child but there is no guarantee. So Acyutananada, he was the one and then I think Krishna Mishra, and like that three were devotees. So the present… who of you went to Shantipur? Today it is very auspicious to take the prasad there on this tithi – you also ate the prasad there? Hari bol! By eating prasada there on this day, the disappearance day of Madhavendra Puri, you get Krishna Prema or you get Bhakti  - pure devotion.

So in Shantipur, that was where Advaita Acarya lived mainly, it says that Shantipur was famous for being having a very  …and being very critical of the  Vaishnavas. It was a tough place. Later when Lord Caitanya He came back from Gaya and He was initiated by Ishwara Puri Maharaj at that time He started to display His devotion. So He was a changed person. Up to that time He was living as Nimai Pandit, He was showing his learning and scholarly skills and He could defeat anyone and everyone in Grammar. Senior Vaishnavas like Srivas Acarya and Advaita Acarya, He showed them respect and Srivas …. Because if you are a devotee you could do so much.. Nimai Pandit said if I meet my guru, a Vaishnava guru, I will become a Vaishnava. Lord Caitanya was looking for a guru and finally he took initiation from Ishwara Puri Maharaj. Ishwara Puri was the disciple of Madhavendra Puri. After accepting initiation He became a very docile person. Also he saw Krishna in Karanaksha? … Krishna came up and hugged him and He became mad after Krishna. He went after Him and Krishna, He disappeared. After that Lord Caitanya came back. He was completely different from the Nimai Pandit people knew. He was devotionally inclined and He was showing so much ecstasy.

One day He came out and told the brother of Srivas  who was Sri Ram Pandit, He told him to go to Advaita Gosai and tell him that the person for whom he was fasting and chanting and worshipping the Shalagrama-shilas with Tulasi manjaris and Ganges water, that person is now here in Navadweep. So Sri Ram went and somehow located the house of Advaita Gosai and there in the courtyard he saw Advaita Gosai worshipping his Shalagrama-shila. Sri Ram came in and paid his obeisances. Advaita jumped up and said: How do I know it is you? How do I know it is you? Sri Ram had not said anything and was quite amazed why Advaita was saying the same thing. But then finally Advaita accepted and asked him what message do you have Sri Ram? That person who you are worshipping all day with Tulasi manjari and Ganges water, and chanting, that person is now in Navadweep! And Advaita jumped up and he said Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! I brought Him down! I BROUGHT HIM DOWN! I BROUGHT HIM DOWN! Hari bol! …But how do I know it is Him? Maybe I was fasting and chanting and praying but how do I know He is really here. You tell Him I am not coming. Tell Him I will not go! I will hide in the village. I will hide and if He is really my Lord He will find me and He will put Hi feet on my head and I will see Him and His transcendental body and I will see this is my Lord. His wife Sita Thakurani was standing next to him with an arati tray…. Meanwhile Sri Ram Pandit he came and he wanted to tell Lord Caitanya that Advaita is not coming  but Lord Caitanya just looked at him and said : Come out Narayana come on! Advaita Acarya come on. So then he came out and he was like a little timid and he paid his obeisances and the Lord put His foot on his head and he looked up and saw the whole world had disappeared and there was only Lord Caitanya and the Brahman effulgence from His body and there were Nityananda and other associates holding chamara in the prayer. He saw this and realized this is the Lord, this is the Lord, Hari bol! I brought Him down! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! So then he did arati and that arati lasted for 22 hours. Ha! Ha!.. No 21 hours! So that was a super arati and we celebrate that arati at the time of the Sandhya arati : Kiba Jaya Jaya Gaura Chander Aarati Ko Shobha! So at that time Lord Caitanya showed who He really was to many people  - many associates, otherwise He would hide Himself in the garb of a Vaishanava, a devotee. So normally to Advaita Acarya He would offer all respect as Advaita Acarya was initiated by His guru’s guru. So He took Advaita to be higher in the rank. So He offered him obeisances and respect but Advaita always thought that Lord Caitanya is my senior – He is the Original Personality of Godhead and I am just the expansion of His expansion. So he was always offered respect by Lord Caitanya. One time just to get Lord Caitanya to disrespect him, he began to speak the Patanjali yoga system and little mixed with mayawad. So he was speaking of the yoga with the mayawad and Lord Caitanya came after him with a stick: you don’t speak this nonsense anymore. So he was very happy that he was being disrespected.

One time Lord Caitanya  had fallen down in ecstasy and at that time Advaita, he took the dust of Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet and he thought this is my chance, I can get His dust and so he took the dust! But when Lord Caitanya came back to His external consciousness, He said: someone stole my bhakti, some one took my bhakti, I don’t have any bhakti,  what is the use of living without My bhakti and He ran to the Ganges and then Nityananda ran after Him. And all the devotees started to catch up but they weren’t as fast as Lord Caitanya. So Lord Caitanya dived into the Ganges with all His clothes on and Lord Nityananda dived after Him and all the other devotees and came and saw circles – they didn’t know where to go! They looked and looked and looked and could not see! They looked again and again but could not see, where is He? Where is He? They came away. Then Lord Caitanya came up and swam to the shore, and next came Lord Nityananda … okay come on! They hid in the house of Nandan Acarya and They stayed there and then They called Srivas – I think it was Srivas – and They asked him what is happening? Srivas said, My Lord you are alive, you are okay, the devotees think You took Your lives. They are very much beside themselves. Especially, Advaita, he is not eating, he is not sleeping and crying I don’t know, what have I done? What have I done? He is rolling on the ground and crying my Lord. He is in a very pitiful condition. After some time, Lord Caitanya said : you can tell him We are still here. I think he has learned a lesson. So after Lord Caitanya took sanyas He did not like to stay away from the Ganges, He said that those who live by the Ganges, they have more devotion and they chant Hare Krishna…

Lord Nityananda walked ahead of Lord Caitanya and told some cowherd boys there that when Lord Caitanya asks them which is the way to Vrindavan, point south, Vrindavan is the other way, it is north. And they knew Nitai was telling a lie because the Yamuna is on the other side. So any way Nityananda dived into the Ganges and swam to the other shore which was Mayapur and then he got Mother Sachi and brought her to Shantipur. Meanwhile Lord Caitanya came looking and crying: Vrndavan kothaay? Where is Vrndavan? The cowherd boys pointed south (Guru Maharaj made a gesture with his finger, Ha! Ha!). So he went to Shantipur and there He wondered what is Advaita doing here, in Vrindavan? Ha! Ha! Then He realized, I am not in Vrindavan, I am in Shantipur! Ha! Ha! I got cheated! That Nityananda, He cheated me! Then He said to Advaita I have been cheated. This is not Vrindavan! Also this side is the Yamuna, so it is not different from Bengal and they come over to Shantipur .  Advaita said please take your meal here    and he said now you are a sanyasi, we should serve you. And He said, yes as I am a sanyasi give Me just a little shak, little rice, little dal and one sabji, I am a sannyasi and I should eat austerely. Sure! Ha! Ha! Nityananda came and said I haven’t eaten for three days, I want an opulent spread, I don’t want this simple prasad! I want a big spread! I am hungry! So there was this contrast. Meanwhile Mother Saci and Sita Thakurani they cooked a big feast and Advaita served the rice, sabzis and dals  and chutneys and things to Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda and Lord Caitanya said this is too much! I told you I am a sanyasi and I have to eat very austere. Advaita said, eat whatever You want and leave the rest. And Lord Nityananda, He said, what is this? What is this? Ki holo ei shob! I said I needed prasad, I am hungry! So then he was taking prasad and Advaita as soon as he would finish one bowl, he would fill it up! And so it was hard to keep track how much he ate as the bowls were always full. So Lord Caitanya was eating and giving it to him and saying I feel very full! But Lord Nityananda said, I am so hungry and they are not feeding me! He threw some rice on Advaita. So Advaita came dancing and said I got the chishtha, the remnants from Lord Nityananda! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! So this way Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda They were enjoying the pastime. So that place we saw today, is called the theen prabhur vishraam sthaan. The three prabhus – Lord Caitanya, Nityananda and Advaita, they sat and took prasad.

Actually we were told by the father of this present sevak, Shanti Chakra Goswami, he was the previous sevak, he said that well I will give you that place, later his advisors said, don’t give them. At one point he was going to give us but we had to establish the deity of Lord Caitanya, Nityananda and Advaita. And we were worried that if we had the temple and deities there would be some distraction with the Advaita deity so like that…Then they said you can have in the old Ganges  but nothing happened.  In any case that is the ancient house of Lord Advaita and Lord Caitanya visited there on many occasions. Most significant is after He took sanyas and also today, Govinda Dwadasi.

Of course there are also many pastimes when Advaita went to Jagannath Puri and he would cook and feed Lord Caitanya. Advaita was very much devotional for Lord Caitanya and he had the excuse that He was a sannyasi so we have to respect the sannyasis. We are very much grateful to Advaita Gosai that he has come and brought Lord Caitanya down from the spiritual world. Sri Advaita Gosai Ki Jay!

Doya koro Sitapati Advaita Gosai, Tava kripa bale pai Caitanya Nitai!

So that is a little gist, nectar about Advaita Gosai. Any questions? I will take one. Okay two. One from the men and one from the ladies!

Devotee: Why Advaita prabhu has beard?

Guru Maharaj: Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, he said that Advaita did not have a beard regularly, he would be shaved up Prabhupad said that probably one time Advaita decided to have a beard. I put it up this year to the GBC of Mayapur that since Prabhupad said that he always based his instructions on Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur and since he said that  Advaita did not live in an ashram and he was not so learned about deity worship and since this is an aspect of deity worship, so he was saying at least in Bengal he should be allowed not have a beard. So let us see what the GBC says. Ladies, question?

Devotee: I heard that Advaita Acarya had two wives and they both became spiritual masters?

Guru Maharaj: Nityananda, He also had two wives – Vasudha and Jahnava. But I forget the name of Advaita Acarya’s other wife. In those days it was allowed to marry more than once and sometimes two sisters would marry the same husband. So this was what happened here. In case of Nityananda, both the sisters Vasudha and Jahnava both wanted to marry Nitai – they are Revati and (Varuni) from the spiritual world. Advaita had Sita Thakurani and I forget the name of the other one – Sri Devi. But I know that Nityananda’s wife Jahnava was a guru but I don’t know particularly if Advaita Acarya’s wife was.

Devotee: The book called Prema Vilas…

Guru Maharaj: The book Prema Vilas  I don’t know. This book on Nityananda is also produced by some so called ISKCON but I don’t know. But that is not accepted as a bonafide book. Nityananda  Bhagavat or something..So there are some books which are not acceptable but somehow they get published.

Caitanya Lila - Day 3 (17/03/2011)

od Jps Live, 19. Marta 2011 u 9:20

Kirtan ....

Yesterday we discussed about Srivas. Today we are going to discuss about Gadadhara Pandit and tomorrow Advaita. Tomorrow we are going to Shantipur .....

I am studying poetry. Lord Caitanya said, oh you are reading poetry, let us hear some poetry. Ha! Ha! Then Gadadhara composed some poetry and Nimai Pandit said, well what are the characters of liberations? Or tell us something about liberation. So he said, well you have to suffer first and then only you can get liberation and he quoted some verse and Lord Caitanya He said that is not real liberation and told him like you go should go back home study again and I will see you tomorrow. And like this every day He was defeating him. He is the Lord of Saraswati the goddess of learning, so naturally He would defeat everyone. Later when He took initiation in Gaya, He came back and He was a devotee and from that time this Gadadhara joined His sankirtan party and Pundarik Vidhyanidhi was there. So Lord Caitanya, He would call out: Pundarik! Pundarik! Pundarik! And devotees thought that well, He is just calling the name of Lord Vishnu. But actually He had such great love for His devotee who in Krishna Lila is the father of Radharani, King Vrishabhanu and He took birth as Pundarik Vidhyanidhi. So Mukunda Datta said to Gadadhara let us go and meet my friend Pundarik? He is PURE DEVOTEE. Gadadhara said, Oh, let us go as he always wanted to meet a pure devotee! So then they went and in Chittagong they speak a special dialect of Bengali called ‘chitkaal kotha’ and (is there a Russian translator? So those speaking Russian go to the Russian translator ) Mukunda Datta was speaking with Pundarik Vidhyanidhi and he was speaking in the local dialect and they were laughing and talking and making small talk. Meanwhile Gadadhara Pandit he saw that Pundarik was a very rich person and he had two people were fanning him and two people were serving him - and on the wall he had tapestries, he was sitting on a cushion with three pillows and a big band playing and at that time he thought that Pundarik was very opulent. So he thought, where have I come, this is a visaya – a sense gratifier – I thought I was coming to the house of a pure devotee, but he is a sense gratifier. He lives so opulently! Meanwhile Mukunda could understand that Gadhadara was uneasy, so he began to chant a song about Putana witch, how Putana expressed a little bit of motherly affection, too bad I have to kill You,  and said I would like to be your mother, but what to do, Kamsa asked me to kill you. So she put poison on her breast and she was going to kill Krishna by giving her poisoned breast in the mouth of Krishna. But because she had expressed some motherly affection therefore she was already in Vaikuntha  in the position as mother of Krishna. So when Pundarik Vidhyanidhi heard this he became so much ecstatic he started to rip his clothes and threw them and shouted: Krishna! Krishna! Krishna! You are so merciful! Oh Krishna! I am so fallen and obviously he had so much love for Krishna that he did not care for all the material things – throwing the lamp and other things. So Gadhadara realized that I made a big mistake – this devotee is really advanced! He loves Krishna so much and he doesn’t care about these material things. Now I committed a Vaishnav aparadah, I should get forgiven. So how will I get forgiven? If I take him as a guru, then the guru always forgives the disciple very easily, so I should take Pundarik Vidhyanidhi as my guru and so he told this to Mukunda. And Mukunda conveyed this to Lord Caitanya. Lord Caitanya approved and said, okay, it is a very good idea! So he arranged a yajna and Pundarik Vidhyanidhi gave the Ishta mantra to Gadhadara Pandit. So Vrishabhanu of Krishna Lila became the guru of Gadadhara of Caitanya Lila! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol!

Later Lord Caitanya had sent all the devotees off to preach.  So Gadadhara had gone close to Khatwa  - I think the place is called Barackpore – I may be wrong – but he went to this village and everybody there attended the program and they all said we want initiation, we want to follow you. We are surrendered to you. So Lord Caitanya thought and told Gadadhara since they are all surrendering, you should stay here and guide them. Gadadhara said but, but, I can’t leave you! No, you have to stay here and guide them said Lord Caitanya. Gadhadara said I don’t have any deities. Lord Caitanya around His neck he carried a deity of Krishna ... Lord Caitanya said I have this deity which is dearest to me, I will give this to you. Then Gadhadara said I don’t have any book, how will I teach them? Lord Caitanya gave him a manuscript of the Bhagavad Gita, it was signed by Lord Caitanya, okay I will give you My Bhagavad Gita signed by Lord Caitanya. The Bhakitvedanta Charity Trust we did some repairs  of the temple and the same deities and the same manuscripts are still there. And that was quite a number of years. The whole village is following Vaishnava dharma. On turns they  cook the noon day meal for the deity where the deity comes in a procession and in his house they have a triple altar, Lord Caitanya, Pundarik Vidhyanidhi and this deity of Gadadhara, they put the deity there and the husband will put the leaf and the food cooked by his wife and they will offer prasad to the deity and the deity would eat and they would take the deity home. To this day, after 500 years they still follow this system. Hari bol!

So I have seen how Gadadhara was in the preaching mood, when Lord Caitanya sent everyone out to preach, he went to Jagannath Puri and took a vow of  Kshetra Sanyas. So there he was worshipping the Gopinath Deity which was so beautiful that He looked like Krishna in Vrndavan and Lord Caitanya also embraced Him and He was very, very beautiful. So one day when Nityananda came from Bengal he brought some special rice paddy, a very fine rice, and Gadadhara said, you brought this rice from the spiritual world??! Is to be given to Gopinath? Please, you have to stay here and take prasad he told Nityananda. Gadadhara cooked an offering for Gopinath – rice, some dal, cooked some tender leaves of spinaches, and he cooked some tamarind leaves – now cooking tamarind leaves is not very easy, you have to be very expert cook  but he knew how to cook it and he was cooking. Gadadhara embraced Nityananda and he had taken a vow that anyone who criticizes Nityananda, he would not see his face, anyone who did not like Nityananda, he would not associate with him. So he had so much love for Nityananda. So the two were together and they were hugging each other and crying glorifying Krishna and so this was a very rare moment. In the middle somehow Lord Caitanya, He appeared. He said, both of you tell me now, why did you not invite Me for the feast? Even if you don’t invite Me, I will forcibly take prasad! You cannot deprive Me of this mercy! Divide the prasad into three equal equal parts. I want to take prasad with you Nityananda and Gadadhara. So the three, Lord Caitanya, Nityananda and Gadadhara took prasad after it was offered to Gopinath. So this was a very special pastime. Lord Caitanya He was praising Gadadhara – you are such an amazing cook, who can cook tamarind leaves? Cooking tamarind leaves is very difficult but you are good at cooking anything! I don’t know who you are but you are able to cook and what you cook tastes like nectar! Because Gadadhara is Radharani who came as Gadadhara in Caitanya Lila and so he was also an expert cook. So it is said that if you hear this pastime that Lord Caitanya took prasad with Nityananda and Gadadhara, how the Lord is so kind, so merciful, and hear how the three exchanged their  love of Krishna so much that certainly you will get very soon the lotus feet of GAURANGA! GAURANGA! GAURANGA!

Later in the Caitanya Caritamrita, there is also the pastime where the Lord Caitanya, He tries to go to Vrindavan and Gadadhara Prabhu he goes with him. So Lord Caitanya told him, please, don’t leave Jagannath Puri , you have taken a vow of Kshetra Sanyas and you will now be in Jagannath Puri. But Gadadhara said, that seeing Your lotus feet, wherever You are is Jagannath Puri! I will stay with You! Lord Caitanya said I will be responsible for this, I will be the guilty one to let you break your vow and leave Nilachal Kshetra and also leave the service of Gopinath. Gadadhara said, simply seeing Your lotus feet is more than millions of worship of Gopinath, so I will stay with You! But if You say You are responsible, I take all the guilt, I take all the responsibility on myself, Gadadhara said. I will just take a little peak of you sometime, that is all! So they crossed over the river. Then Lord Caitanya said, you are now we are at the end of  Nilachal Kshetra – go back! You go back, I wont take you! You have to go back! You have to go back and you have to worship Gopinath and you have to stay in Nilachal!  But then Gadadhara fainted. So then Lord Caitanya called and told Saarvabhauma Bhattacharya You  take him back with you. You take him to Jagannath Puri. So then Vaasudev Saarvabhauma he said, to Gadadhara, these are Caitanya pastimes, Caitanya Lila, who can understand His pastimes? Then Gadadhara he returned back with Saarvabhauma Bhattacharya.

One more pastime, Gadadhara he said to Lord Caitanya ever since I gave my mantra to some devotee who was not qualified, my mind has been very disturbed, so I want to get the mantra again. So please give me the mantra. Lord Caitanya said, well listen your mantra guru is Pundarik, so are you sure you have not committed some offence? While the mantra guru is present you should only get the mantra from him, not from Me. Otherwise My spiritual life will be affected and also yours. So I should not give you. Gadadhara asked, if You give me, what is the problem? Lord Caitanya said, well, in another 10 days he will be here as Pundarik wants to see Me and I think you are also like a magnet and you are attracting him. So he is coming and you can get the mantra from him. Because Lord Caitanya was antaryami, He is the Supersoul, He knows everything past, present and future, He knows all the things. So He knew that Pundarik was coming. So Pundarik came and then on Odana  Shasthi, that is the first day of winter he gave re-initiation to Gadadhara prabhu because he told his istha mantra to someone who was not qualified. That means we should also be careful not to give our mantras away to people who are not qualified. So Pundarik gave the mantra again to Gadadhara Prabhu. I think in Caitanya Caritamrita it says that  those who hear these pastimes of Lord Caitanya they will very soon get bhakti  - Krishna bhakti. Hari bol!

When Gadadhara, when he was very old he thought I cannot worship Gopinath, I have to have some disciple worship because I cannot lift up my arm, so at that time next day Gopinath, He was sitting so like Gadadhara could give Him bath. So a rare pose of Krishna sitting deity is there, the stone deity sat down to let Gadadhara worship Him and now He is known as Tota Gopinath – the sitting Gopinath. Jai! Before He was standing.

When Srinivas Acarya he came to see Lord Caitanya and Lord Caitanya had left before, so he was mad and Lord Caitanya had told him you should see Gadadhara and hear from him the Bhagavat. So regularly, Lord Caitanya would come and hear the Bhagavatam from Gadadhara and Gadadhara would read hundreds of times maybe thousands, the pastimes of Prahlad and Dhruva Maharaj. Srinivas Acarya, he went to see Gadadhara as at that time he was feeling great separation from Lord Caitanya. But at that time Gadadhara was not seeing anyone but when he heard the name Srinivas was outside, he said he would see him. Srinivas said he would like to learn the Bhagavatam, I would like to learn the Bhagavatam from you. Gadadhara said I am happy to teach you Bhagavatam but our Bhagavatam is now washed out and is covered with tears and it is not visible any more. So he saw the Bhagavatam the tears had washed off the words and the Bhagavatam was not visible. So he said if you want me to teach you the Bhagavatam, you have to get me a fresh copy. In those days copies were handcopied by scholars, brahmanas who would hand write it. So Srinivas went back to Navadweep with the Bhagavatam written as all the scholars were here and then came back to Jagannath Puri and heard the Bhagavatam. With that we will end the story here! Hari bol!

Did you all see the Boat Festival of Radha Madhava? Were They not BEAUTIFUL??

We have some prasad from the deities which is  Ekadasi prasad. Today is Ekadasi. But we will take two questions – are there any questions?

Devotee (Atul Krishna?): Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Radha and Krishna combined, so why did Radharani come again as Gadadhara Pandit?

Guru Maharaj: In Caitanya Lila Gadadhara is in the supporting role as he helps Lord Caitanya in this Lila. In the Krishna Lila Radharani is the Heroine, She has the major role. But in Caitanya Lila She comes to support Lord Krishna who was taking the mood of Radharani. So in this he takes a broader role,  supportive role. Any other question? ...Sundari Devi dasi?

Sundari Devi Dasi: Does Gadadhara sometimes feel like he is Radharani or as you explained yesterday that Lilas are separate...

Guru Maharaj: We are just little jivas. Radharani is the internal potency, so we cannot understand the Lord or His internal potency what They know, They don’t know. We are all jivas – Brahma is a jiva, we are also jivas but we are very small jivas. So I don’t know what Gadadhara knows, what He doesn’t know but as a protocol wife of the younger brother according to Vedic custom to associate with the elder brother was not right But that relationship is not there when She comes as Gadadhara. So Gadadhara can freely associate with Nityananda. So we see that Gadadhara would take advantage and he would associate with Nitai, so what He knew, what He did not  know, I can’t say. I think He knew because She was either the external or internal potency and She is the internal potency.

Devotee: Sometimes the pujaris here dress Gadadhara in a feminine way with ... I don’t know why in Mayapur I feel Gadadhara he looks so feminine or... and I don’t know why the pujaris are making ....

Guru Maharaj: I didn’t know this. Maybe you see something. Ha! Ha!

Sri Caitanya Lila - Day 2 -- 16/03/2011

We offer tarpana for Bhismadev in the Ganges. He was a brahmachari since his birth and did not marry and he had no children to do his tarpana, so we all accept to do for him because he was a pure devotee of the Lord. Of course you could say that he doesn’t need it but it is to our benefit to do it.

So there is one story from the Padma Purana, there was this devotee and he would go everyday to the Ganges and there he would bathe, recite his Gayatri, offer prayers  and then take a bucket home and give to his wife and children. So this was his daily practice. He was a great devotee of the Ganges. Actually Prabhupad said that he wanted to go every day to the Ganges and that if he could do that it could extend his life. At that time the Ganges was far away and there were many properties on the way. We were trying to buy all the properties but it was very difficult. Now the Ganges is very close. So, it is easy now but at that time it wasn’t. Prabhupad, he would say, as a child he would go every day to the Ganges by the Howrah bridge. I don’t know the Howrah bridge built then or not but that is where his house was at Mahatma Gandhi Road which was then known as Harrison Road.

So, any way, this brahmana one day he was coming back from the Ganges and there was a politician but he was born in a Brahmin family – he had a Brahmin thread but he was a politician. He cheated, he lied and he was involved in so many wrong things, he had killed his father who was a rival for him in the court and he was a very simple person. He was very proud and came walking and saw a bull and he thought why is this bull is blocking the  road. He picked up a branch and started to hit the bull. Now the bull is not a very wise thing. It got up and looked, who is this guy and he started kicking with his feet and then charged and hit him with his horns and the Brahmin flew in the air and he was pierced in the heart and he was thrown down and was lying on the road, spot dead! And the bull went walking on.

Mean while this other Brahmin came from the Ganges and he saw a Brahmin lying dead on the road. And he said let me sprinkle some Holy Ganges water on him. He then walked on and after some time he saw some Yamadutas who were injured and one was carrying another. He asked them, what happened to you? They shouted and said, it is all BECAUSE OF YOU! YOU ARE THE ONE WHO DID IT!! The brahmana looked puzzled (Guru Maharaj shrugged his shoulders), what did I do??! YOU SPRINKLED THE GANGES WATER ON THAT SOUL, on that person, he was sinner but because you sprinkled the Ganges water we did not know who these Vishnudutas were who said we could not touch him. The Vishnudutas they came and said he belongs to us as he has been sprinkled with Ganges water, so we are taking him! And they took our ropes and they took him. He was a sinner, he was a killer, a murderer, he was a thief but we don’t know who these Vishnudutas were who walked in and we attacked them and they said what is wrong with you? Don’t you know, the Ganges is sacred and so they called for the Sudarshan chakra and they asked Him to chop our hands and feet and so we had to retreat and it is all because of you! Why did you give that water to him? So this Brahmin went back to the Ganges and paid obeisances again and again and started saying his prayers to the Ganges. Ganga Mayi Devi ki jai! Ganga Mayi Devi ki jai! Ganga Mayi Devi ki jai! Like that he was praying and then Ganges being pleased with him, the Personality of the Ganges came out and gave darshan to him.

As you saw today, she was on a crocodile had a white flower and wore white clothes and she asked what blessing do you want? He said I would like to have two things: One, when I die I want to be touched by your waters. And second if I could go back to the spiritual world otherwise if I cannot at least I should be born in the family of a devotee. She said Thathasthu! So be it! So the Ganges, she is very sacred and she is very much blessed by the Caitanya Lila, by the Gaura Lila and we are also blessed that we have the Ganges Bhagirati flowing right by us. So every year we do this during the festival when we offer the Ganga Puja. Ganga Mayi ki jai!

Actually, I have seen in Haridwar, Rishikesh, in Benares and few other places they do regular puja of the Ganges. I told them here we should do regular puja to the Ganges. They say we are doing once a year. Somehow it is not happening. But we hope that some time we would be able to do the puja regularly, at least every week, puja to the Ganges. The Ganges goes through the three worlds and it purifies, it is the lotus feet water of Vishnu, so it is very sacred and you can call it  the charanamrita of the Lord. Some kings they used to carry only Ganges water and that Ganges water day by day it gets more and more pure. Other water gets contaminated day by day but the Ganges water gets more and more pure! We also tested it and the everyday we got  15 % more clear  and by 9 days it was very clear. But there is garbage being thrown in the Ganges which is unacceptable and unfortunate.

Anway, at the house of Srivas Thakur I told one of the  Parikrima groups, I didn’t know it was the Hindi Parikrama, I told how Srivas invited Gauranga to come to his house and do kirtan because they are the denizens of KRISHNA PREMA!! Hari bol! So he was invited to the home and there the people were told that the people would not understand their ecstasy, so I will only bring very confidential devotees who know what these ecstacies are and know how to appreciate. So that is how the kirtan started. Because Lord Caitanya was chanting and He would faint and His hair would stand on its ends, He would cry loudly and the people thought that He had some mental problem. They did not know that actually He was in ecstasy of love of Krishna. He came to the house of Srivas and there every night they would chant: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare! So like this every day Srivas would have the kirtan of Lord Caitanya in his house.

So people were wondering what is going on inside, but the doors were kept closed and only devotees were allowed and the others were outside and wondering, what are they doing there? What are they doing? What is going on? Chanting Hare Krishna, what else! Hari bol! Hari bol! So inside of course Lord Caitanya was dancing and chanting and His kirtan was very ecstatic and sometimes He would fall on the floor.  Sachi mata, when she saw, because she was the mother, she would be worried, has He got hurt, is He alright? Not knowing she disturbed His ecstasy. So she kept worrying. Lord Caitanya gave her the benediction that during the kirtan she was always in ecstasy and did not know what was happening. Otherwise she would just be like (Guru Maharaj posed like dumbfounded). Ha! Ha! Otherwise she would have disturbed the kirtan. So like this every day they had the kirtan.

One day Lord Caitanya, He stopped the kirtan, and said today I am not feeling ecstasy! I don’t feel any ecstasy! WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? And everybody was thinking because I must have committed some aparadah, Lord Caitanya, Lord Gauranga, He doesn’t feel ecstasy today. Lord Gauranga said maybe somebody is watching, somebody WATCHING! WHO IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE! So Srivas he looked in the house everywhere and he couldn’t find anyone. No one is there and so they started kirtan again. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna .... But Lord Caitanya He said again I don’t feel ecstasy. Who is responsible? Why am I not feeling any ecstasy any bliss today? Again devotees were thinking what did I do? Because a devotee naturally thinks of himself as the culprit. He doesn’t find fault with others and blames himself first. So each one was thinking is something wrong with me? Then again Lord Caitanya said there was must be someone here because after all He is antaryami, He is Krishna, He is in everyone’s heart, so He knows who is there or not there. So they saw in the corner of the house, somehow the mother in law of Srivas was hiding under a basket and watching. She wanted to see Lord Caitanya dance. Srivas pulled her by the hair and threw her out! Now Bengalis are very respectful to the mother in law! And they don’t do that. But Srivas had to do this. So then, Lord Caitanya chanted again Hare Krishna Hare Krishna... Then Lord Caitanya asked Srivas , who was that? Srivas said, I don’t know! Again Lord Caitanya asked, who was that? Srivas said, I don’t know! Ha! Ha! Wasn’t that your mother in law, Lord Caitanya asked. Yes, Srivas said (Guru Maharaj made a very straight face and said yes meekly!)! Ha! Ha! Why did you treat your mother in law so badly? Anyone who interferes with Your ecstasy My Lord will not be tolerated, I am simply made for Your service. So anyone who interferes with your ecstasy, I don’t know them! Lord Caitanya said, Srivas you are too much! Ha! Ha! So Srivas was totally dedicate to Lord Caitanya.

Srivas, he went to the Bhagavatam class of Devananda Pandit and at time Devananda Pandit he had this class in Koladweep on the other side of the river. So Srivas sat in that and hearing Krishna Lila he felt ecstatic and he started to cry in separation. But Devananda Pandit he was basically a mayawadi and anyway useless for us. Any way Srivas he was ecstatic and crying. So he said who is this causing disturbance, throw him out! They picked out Srivas and threw him out and he didn’t know what was happening when he got thrown out! Any way Caitanya Mahaprabhu picked him up and chastised Devananda Pandit. He said you have offended a pure devotee – you don’t know the slightest meaning of Bhagavatam and you are giving a Bhagavatam class! You are very offensive! And so on and so forth! He said so many things to Devananda Pandit and Devananda Pandit was very much offended and first he thought who is this person who can insult me? He got upset. He was somehow related to Vakreshwar Pandit. So Vakreshwar Pandit came to him and said, listen, Lord Caitanya is actually Krishna Himself, but He came in a disguise as Nimai Pandit. Actually you should understand that it was predicted that the Supreme Lord would come in a devotee form in the Kali Yuga and give us love of Krishna freely to everyone! And then they started to study the shastra and found out who Lord Caitanya actually was. And then he came to Lord Caitanya, offered his obeisances to Lord Gauranga. Lord Gauranga told him, you did not offend Me, you offended Srivas, so you please offer your obeisances to Srivas. So he went to see Srivas and he offered his obeisances to Srivas and begged for forgiveness. So he was forgiven. Srivas we read in the Bhagavatam how by a little bhakti he is so great.

One time Lord Caitanya had tested Srivas, He told Srivas, you know why do you let this mendicant Nityanada into your house? You don’t know what family He comes from, what He does, He is like an avadhoot. Sometimes He acts like a child, sometimes like He is swimming in the Ganges! You don’t know about this person. I think you should drive Him out of your house for the sake of your family. Please don’t keep this Nityananda in your house! And then Srivas said, Lord, why, why are you testing me? I know that Nityananda is nondifferent from You and Nityananda is very dear to You. Even a  devotee with a little devotion is pleasing to you - what to speak of Lord Nityananda who is Your counter part! So even if I see Nityananda wandering or acting strangely I know that He is transcendental. So I cannot ask Him to leave because I have all respect for Nityananda. And Lord Caitanya then said, yes I was testing you and you have passed the test! And Srivas you are so dear to me that even if Lakshmi Herself has to beg in the street, the Goddess of Fortune gets broke, you will never be broke, you will always have very much plenty in your house and even the dogs and cats, even the insects in your house will have pure devotion! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! So we are like the dog in Srivas’s house. Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! So Srivas is so dear to Lord Caitanya, so we worship him on the altar as the representative of all the devotees. Sri Krishna Caitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Sri Advaita Gadaadhara, Srivas Adi Gaura Bhakta Vrinda! So Srivas adi means and all the other devotees. Like Srivas, following Srivas.

I will tell you one more Srivas story and then we will give out prasad. I think our seven days of parikrama and the prayaschit morning that my speaking ability has come down a bit. I hope tomorrow I would have a little more rest and speak a little better. Srivas was a very simple soul, he would believe whatever people told him. Some of the people told him that if he had kirtan in his house the  Hussain Shah would send the troops and would harass all the Hindus in Navadweep, all because of you!  You Srivas! It was only a routine change of troops and nothing special but Srivas thought that just because of me they are sending some extra troops and will cause some trouble. He was too simple a person and could not think that people would just make up things and come and tell him. So he decided to worship Lord Nrsimhadev who protects all the devotees.

Naamaste Nrsimhaya!...

So while he was offering his puja to Lord Nrsimhadev, Lord Caitanya knocked on his door, knock! Knock! Knock! Srivas! Srivas! The person who you are worshipping is here! Srivas open up! The Person you are worshipping He is here! Srivas thought, I am worshipping Nrsimhadev! He opened the door and there he saw Lord Caitanya was there and manifesting His four handed form. Hari bol! He looked at Srivas and said, you have nothing to worry about Srivas! Nothing to worry about! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! So Srivas Thakur, so many pastimes that happened at Srivas Aangan. I only told a few. Srivas is Narada Muni who came down to participate in Lord Gauranga’s pastimes. So if we are fortunate we can also participate in Lord Gauranga’s pastimes. How many of you would like to participate in Lord Gauranga’s pastimes? Hari bol! He had so many devotees who were doing kirtan – He did kirtan in the street – there were so many people who were doing kirtan in Navadweep and they came to the house of Chand Kazi, like that there are so many pastimes where Lord Caitanya came and He engaged all the residents of Navadweep. So this Navadweep Dham is also known as and non different from Vrindavan and it is also existing in its spiritual form in the spiritual world as Shwetadweep. In Goloka Vrindavan there are four sections – Vraja, Mathura, Dwaraka and Shweta. So this land of Lord Gauranga is also there in the spiritual world and most of the devotees who are there in Gaura Lila are simultaneously there in Krishna Lila as well. Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! Are there any questions regarding Srivas?

Question: Srivas was Narada Muni. Narada Muni was a naishtika brahmachari. How did he accept the role as a grihastha in Gaura Lila?

Guru Maharaj: You see, Narada Muni is a liberated soul so when they come down to participate in the pastime of the Lord they can accept any role. So he came down as Srivas and he accepted the role. So that is in Gaura Lila. So it is another birth and not the same. So like Lord Brahma, he came down as Haridas Thakur. Brihaspathi, he came down as Vasudev Sarvabhauma. So they came and participated. So what they were in the other lila and now they have no connection. That is how the Lilas work. Once you are in a Lila, you are under the control of Yoga maya. So you are in that Lila until you are required.

Caitanya Chandra Charan from Croatia, his  birthday today? Do we have a cake for him?

Question: We know that Srivas Thakur he left three times and got this prasad at his doorstep...

Guru Maharaj:  Did you all hear?

Devotees: No

Guru Maharaj: Also we have Marici das making an announcement about...

Question: What is the example that devotees can take from Srivas Thakur’s life?

Guru Maharaj: He is asking what are the examples we can take from Srivas Thakur’s life as a grihastha?  (Guru maharaj in the meantime cut a cake.) Hari bol! (Devotee brought a basket of cookies and guru maharaj took one and said Aha!).

Guru Maharaj: Caitanya Chandra Charan please come forward.

Hari bol! Guru Maharaj did arati with a candle in the middle of the cake with the devotee and his wife. Then the devotee took the cake and showed arti to Guru Maharaj. Devotees sang Hare Krishna....Guru Maharaj gave a cookie and cake to Caitanya Chandra Charan das. Devotees then came for maha prasadam from Guru Maharaj!

Jay Gurudev!

Guru Maharaj will be speaking on Caitanya lila at 8 pm IST.

Please,please dont miss the nectar..

15/03/2011 - Sri Caitanya Lila Day 1

15/03/2011 - Srimad Bhagavatam Lecture

Today is the 6th day of our Parikrama.Since the last 5 days many devotees in Mayapur have been hearing how ecstatic it is visiting all the 4 Parikrama parties everyday. This morning we had about forty devotees following Guru Maharaja on his car Parikrama. We had devotees from Sweden, Ecuador, Russia, Switzerland and Spain following Guru Maharaja in six vehicles. Looks like Guru Maharaja's party had become the fifth Parikrama party! Though ours was the smallest, yet it was the fastest Parikrama party!  Our first party to be visited for this morning was the International party at Simantini. This was the same place where we met the Russian party yesterday morning.

While we were getting Guru Maharaja out from the car at the entrance of Simantini ground, we heard His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaja sharing some of the struggles and hard work Guru Maharaja went through during the early years of Parikrama. As soon as he saw Guru Maharaja coming out of the car he said, " We were just talking about Jayapataka Maharaja and he is here. (With mild laughter) he said, Jatapataka Maharaja and his name is non different. Jayapataka Swami Ki Jai!!!! ". Crowd applauded loudly. His Holiness Bhakti Purusottama Swami then shared his realizations and appreciated His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaja and Guru Maharaja for their endless contribution in developing this Parikrama.

He continued saying how each time when he (Bhakti Purusottama Swami) informed Guru Maharaja about the new development they have done for the Parikrama, Guru Maharaja gave more and more ideas to make it better. He cited continuous spraying of water on the dusty roads, right in the front of the Parikrama party while the devotees are walking was one of the ideas given by Guru Maharaja in taking care of Parikrama devotees. Before winding up his speech, he announced that there will be a Parikrama realisation session today evening which will be held at the Jaganath Temple. This  Parikrama realisation session takes place every year on the 6th day of the Parikrama. After Bhakti Purusottam Maharaja’s speech Guru Maharaja started the class by invoking the auspicious mantras. He spoke on the pastime of  Parvati Devi who had darshan of Lord Caitanya.

In between the class, He went on chanting Gaurangaaaaa! Gaurangaaaaa!!!! Gaurangaaaaaa!!!!!!! With both his hands on the air. Within ten seconds the entire devotees joined Him in chanting Gauranga! Gauranga! And this went on for almost another two minutes. Then Guru Maharaja pointed His hand to the  left and then to the right. When he pointed to the right, devotees on His right side chanted, Gauranga! And when He pointed to his left, devotees on the left side chanted, Gauranga! While chanting they were moving their body to left and then to the right. The body movement were very well synchronized with the chanting of Gauranga. The tsunami of Gauranga pulled in everyone into the chanting including the senior devotees. His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaja who was sitting next to Guru Maharaja, stood up, and with his left hand rubbing Guru Maharaja’s shoulder and right hand holding the microphone said,” I missed this feeling of “Gauranga” for the last few years. Today I felt it again in the Parikrama. Again a loud chanting of  Gaurangaaaaaaaa!!!... broke out and went on and on and on until Lokanath Maharaj had to stop it due to time constraint.

At  9 am Guru Maharaja left Simantini to meet the Bengali group in Pratap Nagar. We fed Him breakfast on the way and after 45 minutes of driving we reached Pratap Nagar. There the devotees were still having their breakfast. While waiting for the devotees, Guru Maharaja had a short nap and then answered few emails using His blackberry.

This morning Bhakti Purusottama Swami announced that the land owner of Naimisaranya expressed his desire to sell the land where Naimisaranya is exactly located. And the price he quoted was 6.6 million Indian rupees. The land owner also told Maharaja that either buy now or bye bye forever because many are waiting to buy it!! When Maharaja announced this, all the presidents of Thirty six temples in Bangladesh pledged to collect three million rupees for this land. In between the class Guru Maharaja said," I heard Bangladesh Nama Hattis pledged three million rupees, what about the West Bengal Nama Hattis???” Then many devotees came forward and pledged a good sum for the land. But let me tell you all, though many Bangladeshi devotees are quite poor, they are the most generous devotees.

At 12:20 noon we headed towards Nrshimapalli to meet the Russian Party. Today was the hottest Parikrama day we ever had. Still some of the devotees from the Russian Party were doing resounding kirtan in the scorching heat. Today we had His Grace Dina Bandhu Prabhu from Vrindavan as a second speaker after Guru Maharaja. At 2:20 pm we left from Nrshimapalli to Bhaktivedanta Arogya Ashram (BAA) at Godrumadwip to meet the last party of the day, the Hindi party. GurMaharaja spoke for a short while before they served the lunch prasadam for all.

Guru Maharaja had His shower and lunch in Baktivedanta Arogya Aashram (BAA). After lunch we were supposed to travel back to ISKCON Mayapur but Guru Maharaja had some other hidden plans which he revealed later. He said Hewants to visit Avadhuta Maharaja at Surabhi Kunj and then attend the realization session at Rajapur Jaganath Temple. Surabhi Kunj is one of the famous places in Godrumdvip. Our parikrama party stops here, do hours of ecstatic kirtan, devotees roll on the ground and smear dust all over their body. Godrumdvip is located just across the Jalangi River from ISKCON Mayapur. It takes about 15 minutes if we travel by boat and more than an hour if we travel by road. So we told Guru Maharaja to take at least one hour rest before going to Surabhi Kunj and Jaganath Temple. He said He will take rest in the car. But we managed to convince Him to sleep in BAA itself for about half an hour before visiting the other places. Finally He agreed and went straight to bed. We woke Him up after one hour. We left BAA at 6:30 pm, stopped for 15 minutes in Surabhi Kunj and then headed towards Jaganath Temple. Guru Maharaja had the darshan of Their Lordship Jagannath Baladev Subhadra and then shared their glorious pastimes with the devotees.

There were about 300 devotees from the international groups who attended this realization session along with His Holiness Bhakti Purusottama Swami, His Holiness BVV Nrshinga Maharaj, His Holiness Maha Vishnu Swami, His Holiness Bhaktisiddhanta Swami and others. His Holiness Bhakti Purusottama Swami said that the Parikrama devotees are missing something special from Guru Maharaja for the last three years. His special care for the Parikrama devotees. During the whole Parikrama before He honours His prasadam, He visits all the devotees in the prasadam tent, walking row by row to show His concern for them. He also puts up His night along with Parikrama devotees at the camp site and before He goes to bed He visits the prabhus’s tent to see if they are well accommodated. Sometimes He personally supplies His personal sun block cream to some western devotees! But due to His health condition now these aspect of His caring are missed by the Parikrama devotees. This really  shows how compassionate and merciful our dear Guru Maharaja is. We returned to ISKCON Mayapur at 9:30 pm.

Navadwip Mandala Parikrama ki jai!!!!!

Your humble servant,

Maha Varaha Das

Today is the 5th day of the Navadwip Mandala Parikrama. It is so ecstatic to be in the Parikrama, to immerse in hearing the transcendental pastimes of Sri Mahaprabhu, sitting in the very same place where these pastimes took place, chanting and singing the holy names, walking in the dust of dhama, to take bath in the holy Ganga and be in the association of devotees. We really look forward to go on this special parikrama every morning. For us (the servants) it is special because we get to go along with Guru Maharaja and get to visit all the four parikrama groups everyday. Guru Maharaja had the darshan of Their Lordships and departed from ISKCON Mayapur at 7:30 am. It was a breezy and sober morning after the stormy night. We headed towards Simantini to meet the Russian Party but they had not reached yet.

Ten minutes later the Russian Caitanya Army marched into the Simantini ground which is surrounded by old shabby buildings.Upon entering the ground and seeing Guru Maharaja waiting for them, the Russian ladies broke into a loud Uludwani. Probably they are telling Him that they are ready for the Uludhwani competition today with other parties. Guru Maharaja was requested to speak first. He addressed the devotees for 18 minutes. At the end of the class Guru Maharaja highlighted -- " If one always thinks about his body and attached to material designation, it is difficult to enter the dham. If we get free from the illusion and if we see ourselves as the servant of servant of Krishna then we can see the esoteric dham and enter into Navadwip dham."

Then we got a call from the Hindi Party leader that they are on their way to Pancanan Tala.Guru Maharaja and the Hindi party reached Pancanantala at the same time. Parikrama devotees took darshan of Mahadeva Shiva whose temple is located on the shoulder of the main highway. After darshan, devotees gathered under the huge tent erected on the opposite side of the main road. After spending an hour with Hindi party, Guru Maharaja departed to meet the Bengali party at Campahatti. As soon Guru Maharaja's car entered the narrow brick road leading to Sri Gaura Gadadhara Temple, we heard a loud chanting of, Jaya Gaura Gadadhara! Gaura Gadadhara! Gaura Gadadharrrrr! Gauuura Gadadhara!!!!! When the devotee crowd sighted Guru Maharaja's vehicle, the chanting of Gaura Gadai became more louder along with Uludhwani and Haridhwani. These three auspicious vibration really takes one back to Caitanya era.

After having the darshan of Sri Gaur Gadadhara, Guru Maharaja gave a short discourse on the significance of this place. Our last party today is the International group and we are scheduled to meet them at Belpukur which is about an hour drive from Campahatti. So we put Guru Maharaja in his Tempo Traveller and served him lunch on the way to Belpukur. The road leading from the main highway to Belpukur is filled with lush greeneries all way long. Paddy field, mango groves, banana plantations, bamboo groves, lakes, streams and huts made out of bamboo and mud. What a wonderful site!!! Upon reaching the parikrama campsite at Belpukur, devotees were already seated in rows for their lunch. Guru Maharaja spoke for 10 minutes about Sri Madan Gopal Ji, the presiding deity of Belpukur and the significance of Belpukur. Madan Gopal was worshipped by the forefathers of Sacimata and Nilambara Chakravatry. He is being worshipped by the descendants of Nilambara Chakravarty since the last 1500 years.

During the class, Guru Maharaja recalled that there used to be storm (100 km per hour) almost every year when the Parikrama party reaches Belpukur. Later they found out that the temple hall roof of Madan Gopal Ji was leaking. After repairing and renovating the temple hall with concrete roof, there was no storm experienced. Last night there was a storm again which ripped of some of our Parikrama tents... (With smile), Guru Maharaja continued that now our devotees found out that Madan Gopal Ji kitchen is leaking. So we need to repair it to keep the storm away. Actually this temple was taken over by Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust and completed the restoration in the year of 1999. Guru Maharaja ended the class by 3:15 pm and left to take darshan of Sri Madan Gopal Ji. I am sure many of you would have taken the darshan of Madan Gopal Ji during Parikrama. But I would like to tell you again that He is extremely beautiful. He is the same Madan Gopal who is been worshiped and maintained so well for the last 1 500 years. So don't miss Him next time when you come to Mayapur. Oh yes! forgot to tell you all, He will be giving His darshan in www. jpsdisciples. com tonight. So catch Him there. After the darshan, we put Guru Maharaja to sleep in the Tempo Traveller and commenced our journey to Mayapur.

Maha Varaha Das

Today is the 4th day of the Parikrama. At 7:15 am Guru Maharaja came down to the temple hall to take darshan. He comes down from His quarters to the temple hall through the Caitanya exhibition hall using the newly installed elevator. Unfortunately an embarrassing incident took place this morning. The key for the grill gate which divides the temple hall and exhibition hall was misplaced. Guru Maharaja waited for almost five minutes and while He was waiting, I saw the devotee who was pushing the wheelchair slowly stepped far away from Guru Maharaja, fearing he may get scolded. This is the second time such thing has happened. It was very embarrassing for me because at least 8 of us were there with Guru Maharaja but none made sure if the key is with us or went ahead to open the gate. Guru Maharaja kept himself quiet and decided to leave without darshan. Guru Maharaja has very high level of tolerance. He tolerates our mistakes so much. But one should not take advantage of His kindness. Anyway let's get back with the parikrama now.

We left ISKCON Mayapur at 7:30 am. We drove towards Simantadwip which is about 20 minutes drive to meet the Hindi party. Guru Maharaja spoke about the pastime of Simantini Devi (Parvathi Devi) who got the darshan of Lord Caitanya. Simantadwip was named after this pastime. After spending 30 minutes with the Hindi party, we headed towards Pancaveni to meet the Bengali party. Guru Maharaja had his breakfast on the way to Pancaveni (Gauranga Bridge). Half way through our journey, we met the Bengali party whowere streaming along the main road with loud kirtan and colourful flags. They were stretched for almost 3 kilometres. We reached Pancaveni before them. While waiting for them, Guru Maharaja took a walk along the bank of Pancaveni.

Half an hour later as the kirtan was resounding near by, we knew the Bengaliparty which has 3 000 devotees, were approaching us. As soon the party entered the road leading the downhill from the Gauranga Bridge to the bank of Panceveni, thick dust clouded the whole atmosphere. After the devotees settled down in front of the small stage, Guru Maharaja spoke for 30 mins. By now it was already 10:15 am and none had their breakfast. Understanding the situation, Guru Maharaja stopped the class and requested Satya Narayanan Prabhu to chant the prasadam prayers... sarira avidya jal.....  We departed from Panceveni to Pratap Nagar at 10:45 am to meet the Russian Party. Again we were ahead of the Russian party too. The Russian party arrived in Pratap Nagar at 11:10 am and had their breakfast. After breakfast, Guru Maharaja narrated few pastimes which are significant to Koladwip. He mentioned, in Satya Yuga Lord Varaha appeared in this place and told Vasudeva Brahmana the following, "Whoever resides in Navadvipa will attain the results of residing in all other tirthas. There is no place in the three worlds equals to Navadwip Dham. Koladwip is also known as 'Aparadha Vanjan Kuliyapad ’the island which forgives all the offences... Guru Maharaja asked the devotees if anyone asked forgiveness for their offences committed against Vaishnavas knowingly or unknowingly while being in Koladwip. When devotees replied ‘nyet’ (no in Russian) he repeated 'Nyeeeet?' (Noooo) Why? and told them to beg for forgiveness right here because this is the last spot for the Russian party in Koladwip. Immediately a loud prayers of Vanca kalpa...erupted. From Russian Party we left to meet the international party at Vidyanagar.

At this point of time the weather was little cloudy and started drizzling too. As we reached Vidyanagar, we saw some last batches of devotees still walking into the ground of Gaur Nitai Temple. At 2:20 pm Guru Maharaja started his speech by thanking His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaj for leading the International party so nicely. He mentioned in His class that all the knowledge from the Vedas was given from here.... Lord Ramachandra is expert at using the weapons, Lord Krihsna is expert at herding the cows and Lord Caitanya is expert at Knowledge...He has so much knowledge that even attracted Brihaspati who was very eager to see the pastimes of the Lord where he is giving out knowledge..... His eagerness forced him to appear as Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya in Caitanya Lila much before than Mahaprabhu's Appearance. At 3 pm all Srila Prabhupada's disciples were invited to take lunch at H.G. Meenakshi Radha Mataji's house. She lives in Vidyanagar and feeds all the senior Vaishnavas every year during the Parikrama. All Srila Prabhupada's disciples who attended the Parikrama were served with traditional Bengali lunch feast.

Today is the 3rd day of the Navadvip Mandala Parikrama. Our first group to be visited today was the International party in Naimisharanya. When we were about to go out from the Lotus Building through the exit of Caitanya exhibition Hall, we heard the beautiful greeting kirtan for Their Lordship Sri Sri Panca Tattva -- 'Sri Krsna Caitanya Prabhu doya kore moreeee....' was going on in the temple hall. Guru Maharaja told us to wheel him down towards the temple hall for taking darshan of the deities. We left ISKCON Mayapur at 7:30 am and drove towards Naimisharanya. While driving down we were told by the manager of the party that Naimisharanya cannot be accessed by car and we should meet them at Pushkar Tirtha. So we changed our plan and drove to Pushkar Tirtha which is just a kilometre by walk before Naimisharanya. We reached Pushkar Tirtha but the International party was yet to reach.

Guru Maharaja asked us to give a try to meet them at Naimisharanya. We took a different route which is just enough for a car to pass through and we made it. Upon reaching there, we saw the party was about to leave to Pushkar Tirtha. Yet, His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaj welcomed Guru Maharaja and requested everyone to sit back and listen to the speech. Guru Maharaja delivered a short speech. Before the party departed, His Holiness Lokanath Maharaj took over the mic and said that Lord Siva visited Naimisharanya to hear the Gaura Bhagavata Katha being spoken there. While riding on his Nandi on his way here, he was getting frustrated because Nandi was moving slowly. He then borrowed Brahmaji's swan (Hamsa vahana) and cruised to Naimisharanya to reach on time just to listen to Gaura katha. Maharaj continued that His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj, though he is having this slow moving body but using this new vahana (pointing at Guru Maharaja's car) he made it on time to Naimisharanya to share the nectarian pastimes of this holy spot. The crowd chanted out loudly Hari Bol!!!! Hari Bol!!!!

Our next group to be visited was Hindi party who were in Pratap Nagar which is about 20 minutes drive from Naimisharanya. Guru Maharaja had his breakfast on the way. When we reached Pratap Nagar, the devotees were having their breakfast. Guru Maharaja waited for them to finish their breakfast and then at 10.35 am he started his class. He spoke for 40 minutes. His Holiness Radha Raman Maharaj thanked Guru Maharaja for making His presence in Hindi Party despite of all His physical difficulties. He further said "Over five hundred years ago Lord Nityananda took Sri Jiva Goswami on tour around Navadvip and revealed the holy dham to him. So today we have total of five thousand devotees doing Navadwip Mandala Parikrama and all these credits goes to His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj because he has played a very important role in revealing the Navadwip Dham to ISKCON Devotees around the world." Devotees thanked Guru Maharaja with loud Hari bol!!!

At 11:35 am we left from Pratap Nagar to Campahatti to meet the Russian Party. We reached at 12 noon and we saw the other Swamis were narrating pastimes related to Champahatti. Guru Maharaja used this opportunity to take darshan of Lord Gaura Gadadhara (Gaur Gadai) -In His class He mentioned that Srimati Radharani was very dissatisfied being born in female form which was restricting her from associating with Lord Krishna freely especially during the day time. The gopas do not have such restriction on them. So in order to associate with Krishna like how the gopas do, she desired to take birth as Gadadhara (male form) during Caitanya Lila. Here in Champahatti Gaur and Gadai are always together showering their mercy.

At the end of every class of Guru Maharaja, he describes the greatness of other Parikrama parties and in this way he creates trancendental competition among them. He also said that matajis are good at doing uludhwani but we have another dhwani for prabhus, yes!! Haridhwaniiiiiii!!!!... Hari Bol!!!!!!! Everyone chanted Hari Bol!!!!!!!!! His Holiness Kavicandra Swami Maharaj was the last speaker at Champahatti. After that a nice drama on the pastimes of His Holiness Jayadeva Goswami Maharaj was also performed by the Russian devotees. Guru Maharaja also welcomed another well known disciple of Srila Prabhupada, H.G. Dina Bandu prabhu who is from Vraja Dham and thanked him for his presence. At 1:40 pm we left from Champahatti to Bhaktivedanta Arogya Ashram to meet the Bengali group. Here, the Bengali party just reached and most of the devotees gone for shower and to do their laundry. As soon as Guru Maharaja’s car entered the BAA compound, hundreds of devotees swarmed his car to welcome him. We saw some prabhus coming running with wet gamchas and wet body to welcome Guru Maharaja. This was their enthusiasm!!!!! Guru Maharaja had darshan of the presiding deities and then continued with his lunch. After lunch He went to the prasadam tent to address three thousand bengali devotees who were waiting for their lunch to arrive. Since I am not good at Bengali, I took this chance to conclude the diary for the day. While i was typing this diary using Guru Maharaj's Blackberry the prasadam truck arrived.

Wondering what would be the lunch menu for the Bengali party? OK! Let me check it out for you all and meanwhile get your plates ready. Hmmmm there are hot rice, dhal, three varities of subjis, paneer mix, tomato chutney, rasa gulla, sweet rice, rice chips and misti dahi (sweet yogurt) Hari Bol!!!!!

Guru Maharaja concluded his class and departed to iskcon mayapur at 4 pm.

Last night we managed to put Guru Maharaja to sleep by 10 pm, for sufficient rest. He woke up at 4:30 am and as soon as He woke up, He revealed His Parikrama plan for today. His schedule was to first meet the International and Bengali party at Suvarna Vihar. We planned to leave by 6:30 am but we got delayed and left ISKCON Mayapur only at 7:25 am.

We reached Suvarna Vihar at 8 am and met the International party who were listening to the nectarine pastimes from different Maharajas. As the last speaker Guru Maharaja shared the pastimes of Suvarna Vihar and mentioned that, "we need to have ghee like heart and as soon as we hear the name of Gauranga, it should melt instantly." Then everyone chanted „Gaurangaaaaaaaa!!!!". ”He continued, "We should cry for Krishna and Gauranga!!!!.... Mahaprabhu's mercy is flowing freely in Navadvip Dham and one should take this mercy from here and distribute it to the other part of the world. Every step that one takes here, should chant the name of Nitai! Nitai! ” Crowd chanted Nitaaaaaai! Nitaaaaaai!!

At that time we heard a soft kirtan from far distance, Guru Maharaja said the Bengali party is approaching this place so it is time for the International party to leave.Guru Maharaja had His breakfast in that interval. As he was about to end his breakfast, thousands of Bengali devotees walked into the Suvarna Vihar Temple compound with flags in their hands and chanting loud kirtans. As they walked in, the dust from the ground clouded the whole atmosphere. The whole ground in front of Suvarna Vihar Temple was completely filled with devotees yet stream of devotees still flowing in. At every 10 minutes of the class a loud kirtan erupted and filled the whole atmosphere with thousands of devotees clapping their hands and repeatedly responding to Guru Maharaja’s chanting of Gaurangaaaaa !Gaurangaaaaaa! And matajis were doing their uludhwani. Uhhhh!! It was a sight to be seen. Uludhwani is the specialty of the Bengali party. After the class, the Bengali party departed to their next place meanwhile Guru Maharaja was wheeled into the temple hall for darshan.

Our next group to be visited was the Russian party who were in Pancaveni .At 10 :15 am we left to Pancaveni (Gauranga Bridge). This is the same place where we met our Hindi party yesterday. When we reached the Russian party, the matajis were honouring their prasadam and the prabhus were taking dip, enjoying the cool water of Pancaveni. Since this holy spot is located under the bridge and along the narrow bank of Ganges, there was not much space for all to sit and have their breakfast. So first the matajis were allowed to honour their breakfast. All their prasadam sitting rows were numbered accordingly to make the distribution of prasadam easier.

Mean while Guru Maharaja had his fruits and gave darshan to a group of Russian devotees. At 11:45 am the class begun. His Holiness Bhakti Vaibhava Swami, His Holiness Navayogendra Swami, and several Srila Prabhupada disciples shared the pastimes of this holy spot. Guru Maharaja spoke about the pastimes of several other places in Madhyadwip which were visited by the party before reaching Pancaveni. He spoke on Hamsa vahana Shiva, Uccahatta, Sapta Rishi Tila (still remain invisible), Kuliya Pahada in Koladwip. Then Guru Maharaja requested His Holiness Navayogendra Swami to continue the nectar and start departing to meet the next group. (Hamsa refers to Lord Siva who travelled with Lord Brahma’s swan carrier. Uccahatta is non different from Kurukshetra).

Our last group to be visited today was the Hindi parikrama who were on their way to Vidya Nagar. After entering into narrow dusty road which leads to Vidya Nagar, we saw stream of devotees from the Hindi Parikrama partywalking towards the same destination passing through the beautiful mud huts, hay stacks, cows, calves and bamboo groves. The local villagers stood along the whole road, greeted us with big smile on their face and non stop Hari Bol!! Many fatigued looking elderly devotees and small children used rickshaws to travel through this rough road.

As we approached the courtyard of small temple of Lord Gaur Nitai, we saw His Holiness Lokanath Swami along with His Holiness Radha Raman Maharaja under a neem tree. Rest of the devotees settled in front them to hear the nectar.Guru Maharaja started the class first. He was mentioning that the moment one hears the name Vidya Nagar, Avidya (ignorance) will be destroyed. This is also the birth place of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya. He also narrated the story of local villagers who rushed to see Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu when they came to know He is in town. After the class Guru Maharaja took the darshan of the presiding deities and departed to ISKCON Mayapur.

Guru Maharaja woke up at 5 am today. As usual the first thing we do as soon as He gets up is cleaning of His eyes. while I was cleaning His eyes the first thing He talked today was about His Parikrama plan for today. He was piling up all the places He is desiring to visit. I wasn't able to keep up with Him so I told Him “Guru Maharaja you have all this in your mind but I need to write it down."

At that time we heard over the radio, H.H. Lokanath Swami Maharaj was making an announcement for all the devotees in the temple hall after the Mangala Arati, “We have so many walkers for the Parikrama but less talkers. We need more of my godbrothers and godsisters to come with us to share the pastimes of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu”. He continued saying that H.H. Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj is going to go on Parikrama visiting all the 4 parties everyday. Immediately there was a loud chanting of Hariiiii Bol!!!!!! Maharaj said if H.H. Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj can go then none of us should have any excuse. We have minimum 5 000 devotees joining the Parikrama this year. After H.H. Lokanath Swami Maharaj, H.H. Bhakti Purusottama Swami spoke and he said that Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur has said there are 3 ways to serve Mayapur Dham. 1) Developing Nama Hatta, 2) Doing book distribution 3) Developing Nawadvip Mandala Parikrama.

By 6.30 am all the 4 groups of Parikrama devotees started walking out of Mayapur compound with kirtan parties leading them all. All 4 groups started from different locations. The whole of ISKCON Mayapur air was filled with rocking kirtan. It was very ecstatic and we felt the inspiration of just leave everything behind and go for Parikrama right away.

Guru Maharaja was ready by 7am. He had His quick darshan of Sri Sri Radha Madhava and then we had a quick look of the new ambulance purchased by ISKCON Mayapur. Right after that we got commenced our journey for the Parikrama. For 36 years Guru Maharaj has been attending the Parikrama. He said the first foot path Parikrama started around 1975 and He has been walking passing through all the nine Island of Nawadvip Dham since then. This is the first time since He had stroke He is going to go on car Parikrama. He wants to try going for all four parties. This is the first time and the first day, so let see how it goes....

Our first group to be visited today is Hindi group and we suppose to meet them at Gauranga Bridge. Unfortunately, on the way we got stuck with traffic on the main highway. Of course this is not new. We were held up for almost 30 mins. Then H.H.Bhakti Purusottama Swami arranged a police vehicle to escort us. He made the way and we were able to pass through the traffic and all the small lanes of remote villages without any hassles. At 9.30 am we were at Gauranga Bridge. While the parikrama party was taking shelter of the Gauranga Bridge a nice cooling breeze blowing from Ganga energized the devotees. About 700 Hindi speaking devotees were there from all around India. This place is known as Panchaveni. Guru Maharaja spoke in Hindi on the significance of this place, confluence of the five holy rivers at this location. He spoke about nine islands and the significance of each Island too. When the Hindi group started their breakfast Guru Maharaja left to Gauradaha to meet the Russian group.

After 20 mins drive through thebeautiful villages we reached the Russian group. They just finished their breakfast. Super delicious kitcheri, bel juice, grape fruits and pakora. Guru Maharaja gave 20 minutes class for 700 Russian devotees. He spoke on the pastimes of Gauranga Mahaprabhu and the parrot who chanted Gaura! Gaura ! [Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Jagadananda pandita goes near Alakananda River.there they see one parrot, and Mahaprabhu says to the parrot 'Chant thenames of Radha and Krishna' and the Parrot started chanting Gaura! Gaura! Gaura! Gaura! and Mahaprabhu  closed His ears and told “this is Vrindavan.,you should chant the glories of Radha and Krisina”. But the parrot keep on chanting Gaura! Gaura!]

Just before winding up His speech Guru Maharaja told the Russian devotees that He will try to join the group everyday. As soon as He said that the devotees welcomed and thanked him with three times of loud hari bol. While we were with Russian devotees, we noticed that they are so organized in many ways. Matajis and prabhus were sitting separately, devotees taking turn andserving the prasadam, they cleaned up the whole place after having their breakfast leaving no plastic on the ground and by dumping all the leafplates and cups at one corner. Some said the place was cleaner than it was before. At 12 noon Guru Maharaja was driven from Russian party to international party. They are now at Nrshima Palli.

At 12:40 pm we reached Nrshima Palli. There were 700 devotees and senior devotees like H.H. Lokanath Swami Maharaj, H.H. Gopala Krishna Maharaj, H.H. BhaktiVaibhava Maharaj, H.H. Maha Vishnu Maharaj, H.H. Kavichandra Swami Maharaj, H.H. BhaktiVigna Vinasana Nrshima Maharaj, H.H.Bhakti Purusottama Swami Maharaj and others sitting under the cooling shed of Tamala tree. Some devotees performed drama on the lila of Lord Nrshimadev while Guru Maharaja was having the darshan of Lord Nrshimadev. Guru Maharaja mentioned in his class that every step we take in the Nawadvip dham is equivalent to performing an Ashvamedha Yajna. Guru Maharaja also mentioned how the Russian Parikrama party is wellorganised. H.H Lokanath Swami Maharaj said even the English Parikrama party is on gogreen (zero plastic campaign) Parikrama. The class ended with loud andrepeated chanting of Gauranga! Nityananda! by everyone. Then H.H. Lokanath Swami Maharaj requested everyone to pray to Lord Nrshimadeva for the protection of ISKCON Movement and all the devotees all over the world and especially for the speedy recovery of Guru Maharaja. He further said we all should pray that H.H. Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaja should recover fast and dance along with us by next year Parikrama.

At 1:40 pm we left the international party to Bengali party who are camping at Sri Jagannatha Mandir. Guru Maharaja had his lunch on the way to Sri Jaganatha Mandir at Rajapur. This year Bengali group consist of 2 500 devotees and they are expecting more to join. Upon reaching Sri Jaganatha Mandir we noticed all the Bengali devotees were sitting in rows to honour their lunch.Guru Maharaja took this opportunity to address the devotees for 15 minutes. He spoke about glories of taking Sri Jagannatha Prasad and also some pastimes of Lord Jagannatha. Then at 3.15 pm we left Sri Jagannath Mandir to ISKCON Mayapur.

H.H. Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj Navadwip Mandala Parikrama 2007 Kirtan

Guru Maharaj woke up in the morning around 5.15 am. I did my morning seva for Guru Maharaj and then took shower by 6.30 am.Today is the Parikrama Adivasaday. Around 5 000 devotees are taking part in Parikrama this year. The 7-day pilgrimage to the Navadvipa Mandala and the pastime places of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu by walk, in the association of Vaisnavas is aspiritually enriching experience.

Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakura initiated the Parikrama, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur developed it and Srila Prabhupada made this vision of acharyas into a reality. The devotees participating in the Parikrama are constantly increasing every year. Four Parikrama parties, an international group, a Bengali group, Russian Group and Hindi group of devotees go in Parikrama and on the last day of the Parikrama, there will be a Mahamilan of all the four parties at the Yoga Pitha with ecstatic kirtan .All the four groups walked to Yoga Pitha in a kirtan procession led by H.H. Lokanath Swami, H.H. Maha Vishnu Swami and others around 6 am and Guru Maharaj reached there at 8 am. As soon as Guru Maharaj made his Appearance on the stage, H.H. Lokanath Swami said “Here comes the spirit of the Parikrama. If He [H.H. Jayapataka Swami Guru Maharaj] can go on Parikrama, then we all should go and no excuse should be given. Maharaj, you are an inspiration and your presence alone is enough.” Guru Maharaj took darshan of all deities.

Then around 9.15am we left Yoga Pitha back to ISKCON Mayapur by car following the kirtan party.Guru Maharaj had his breakfast in the car. As soon as we reached ISKCON Mayapur,Guru Maharaj visited the registration booth and got himself tagged on his wrist with Parikrama wrist band. Then he commented that we should have the welcome sign in all the languages. Then we went to prasadam hall. He inquired some of the devotees who were honouring prasadam, ”How is the prasadam”? They all said “superb”. H.H. Bhakti.Marg Swami said he likes this prasadam so much while holding a deep fried pakora in his hand. He said," I hardly takes deep fried food but this one is amazing." After visiting the devotees at the Gada prasadam hall he entered the kitchen and inspired the cooks with chanting of Hari Bol!

From the kitchen we wheeled Guru Maharaj down to Caitanya Bhavan to do his regular exercise. After doing 1 hour of exercises, at 12.15 noon we left to Samadhi Audiotorium for Bhakti Vriksha seminar. Guru Maharaj spoke for almost 30 mins about the role of grihastas in developing Bhakti Vriksha. Around 1.15 pm we left the Samadhi Auditorium and reached Guru Maharaj's resident for lunch. Guru Maharaj had 45 mins nap followed with Nustep exercise. Around 6.45pm we went to the temple hall for darshan. From there, to the main stage to receive His sankirtan award for being the top book distributor in the world among Srila Prabhupada’s disciples for the year of 2010.

Then we went to Namahatta Bhavan for Parikrama adivas ceremony in the new building which is still under construction. About 2 500 devotees eagerly waited to see Guru Maharaj and as soon as he entered into the hall a loud uludwani filled up the hall. It was 9 pm and we came to know that the program on main stage was coming to an end. Still Guru Maharaj insisted He wants to go inside to see what is happening in there. Before we left 300 devotees were around in the main stage and upon our return from Nama Hatta there were only 30 devotees. Still he spoke for 10 min. Then left the stage to go to His quarters and took His dinner there. After having his dinner three senior gurukul boys came to meet Guru Maharaj in his room. They came asking Guru Maharaj to sponsor their Parikrama fees. He told them that he will sponsor all the senior boys but with one condition. Gurudeva told that all the children should write a feedback of the Parikrama, atleast a page. Boys agreed with big smiles on their face. Ho! Ho! it is 11pm now, time to take rest. Tommorow it is going to be a long day.
